Hints for a Royal Midnight Snack

The following are hints for when you are stuck on my game a Royal Midnight Snack. I've tried to make the game as fair as possible so I hope you don't get stuck. But if you can't figure out how to progress, get a hint below. The hints are hidden until you click the "Gimme a hint" button to ensure it doesn't spoil the game by showing you only the hints you want to see.

List of locations

Royal Bedchambers

I can't see!
It's pretty dark, isn't it? There is one thing you should be able to see, though. Try opening the curtains to let some of the moonlight in.
Can I do anything else here here?
Not really. Just head out into the palace proper, by exiting through the door on the right.

Hallway

Why can't I re-enter the bedroom?
The princess hasn't had her snack yet. Surely you don't expect her to go back to sleep with an empty stomach?
Where is that monster the princess is calling her guards about?
It's her own reflection. The princess is unaware that she's... erm... "lycanthropically inclined".
That guard's a coward. He's a bit useless, isn't he?
Aw, don't be so harsh on him. He's doing his best to protect the princess, and I'm sure he'll prove useful. Do the friendly thing and talk to him.
I did not expect that!
Neither did the guard. And I did tell you he wasn't useless.

Dining Hall

What can I do with that candlestick?
This is an adventure game. Pick up everything that you can. That includes candlesticks.
How did that vampire get in here and why is he blocking my way?
Good question. I don't know how he got in there either. But werewolves and vampires don't really get along, so he's blocking you simply out of spite.
How do I get past him?
Vampire lore teaches us that they are vulnerable to a few thing. Sunlight, a wooden stake through the heart, and garlic.
It's midnight! How do I get the sun to come out?
Good luck with that. You'd have to wait until dawn like everybody else. But the princess really doesn't want to wait that long for her snack.
How do I drive a stake through his heart?
Unfortunately, there is no wooden stake available. And even if there were, the princess would refuse to get close enough to the vampire for it to be of use.
Okay, I do have that other item. So how do I "administer" it?
The vampire obviously won't just take the garlic if it is handed to him. And the princess's throwing arm is not up to snuff. Perhaps you can launch the garlic at him?
In case you hadn't noticed, I don't have a bazooka.
That would be overkill. You could use a simple slingshot, though.
A what? I don't have one of those
A slingshot, a catapult, a peashooter, whatever you want to call it. If you don't have one and can't find one, you'll have to make one.
So now we're crafting toys? What should I use for that?
You'd need a Y-shaped frame and something elastic. Try the garter and the candlestick.

Throne Room

What is that tapestry?
I like to include a reference to Piet Mondriaan's artwork "Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow" in all of my adventure games as a bit of an easter egg ever since Mission: SPECTRUM.
Why are that suit of armour's eyes glowing?
Have you ever heard the phrase "the lights are on, but nobody's home". Well, here the lights are on when somebody is home. Be polite and have a chat.
The suit of armour won't give up the halberd!
Indeed. But the spirit inhabiting it will trade for a suitable other weapon. Fortunately, there is one nearby.
How do I get the halberd?
Offer it the morning star from the other suit of armour in trade.
The suit of armour won't give up the morning star!
That's not a matter of principle, but it is rather attached to the morning star. Rusted in place, in fact.
How do I get the morning star?
You'll have to loosen it from the suit of armour's rusty grip. Some grease could help.
Where do I find some lubricant?
You could get some butter from the fridge. Or, in palaces without electricity, from the snow cellar in the scullery.
What is that thing on the throne?
One of the princess's garters. It was left on the throne when the princess was getting frisky with the prince after dinner. It's not something you should leave lying around, so just take it with you.

Scullery

What even is a "scullery"?
That's a room used for washing dishes, cleaning cookware and handling other kitchen support tasks. In some regions, it is also used to refer to the main kitchen itself rather than a separate utility room.
And what is a "snow cellar"?
Before the advent of modern refrigerators, people would store snow and ice collected during the winter. In a well insulated show cellar, this ice could keep for months. Great for preserving perishable foods.
How can I get those herbs hanging from the ceiling?
You'll have to extend your reach somehow. Did you see something long around the palace?
What can I use to reach up there?
The most suitable thing would be the halberd from one of the suits of armour in the throne room.

Miscellaneous

That butter is no use to me when it's frozen solid
You could try melting it. Your torch should be able to provide enough heat, but you'll also need something to put it in while it melts. Did you take a pot from the scullery?
Can't I make garlic butter?
I suppose you could, but that's only a condiment, not a proper royal midnight snack. Besides, you needed the last lump of butter to obtain the garlic anyway.
What do I do with the royal sceptre?
There's no sceptre in this game. You're just reading all the hints, aren't you? Shame on you!
